Expert advice
Miles STRATUS T Oils are high quality lubricants recommended for use in steam and gas turbines, as well as in the circulating oils systems of a wide range of industrial machinery.Miles STRATUS T Oils counteract rust and oxidation with blends of our exceptionally pure Hydro Treated (Hydrocracked) base oils, and specially selected additives. These formulations deliver reliable performance and extended service life.
Compared to conventional oils, Miles STRATUS T Oils offer:
PERFORMANCE BENEFITS
APPLICATIONS
Miles STRATUS T Oils are formulated to meet severe service requirements of steam and gas turbine applications. They also provide extended, corrosion-free lubrication of bearings and gears in a wide variety of industrial machinery. STRATUS T may be used in circulating oil systems, enclosed gear boxes, oil-filled couplings and other bearing applications.
TURBINES: Miles STRATUS T oils perform the following functions when used in turbine applications: lubricate and cool bearings, lubricate gears, provide a seal in gas-cooled units act as a hydraulic fluid in governors and vane actuators
They show excellent oxidation resistance and give long periods of trouble-free operation. STRATUS T Oils surpass most turbine manufacturers' and operators' requirements. They meet the following major steam and gas turbine manufacturers' specifications:
GE..................... EK28143A, GEK46506B
Westinghouse... 1500 00 20
Siemens........... TLV901301
ABB.................. K11081201, HTGD90117
Solar................ ES9224
Cooper............ SE1144
PLAIN BEARINGS: The lubrication efficiency of a plain or journal bearing depends on 4 factors; oil viscosity, bearing rotation speed, bearing load and operating temperature. To select the correct lubricant viscosity grade for a plain bearing, consider bearing rotation speed and operating temperature. The correct viscosity grade for various bearing rotation speeds and operating temperatures is below:
PLAIN BEARING LUBRICATION

Operating °C |
Bearing Speed (RPM)Temperatures Below 300 300-2000 Above 2000 |

ANTI-FRICTION BEARINGS: In an anti-friction bearing, the load between the moving surfaces is taken by balls or rollers, not an oil film. This type of bearing requires much less power to overcome friction. However, the load on the balls or rollers and their races generates heat, which must be carried away by the lubricant. Optimum lubrication of an anti-friction bearing is achieved with the minimum supply of the lowest viscosity oil, at the operating temperature that:
Protects surfaces against rust and corrosion
The correct viscosity grade of STRATUS T Oil for various bearing speed factors (bore diameter in inches X rpm) and operating temperatures follows:

GEARS: When a gear-set is lubricated with an oil film, lubrication efficiency depends on the contours oif the gear teeth, the load on the gears and their rotational speed. The American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA) has taken these factors into consideration in drafting various gear lubricant standards for industrial machinery. Miles Petroleum's PRIMEX T Oils are recommended for use when the AGMA specifies Non-EP oils:
